Summary of Distinctive Features
This Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies offers a challenging, broad based, employability led curriculum tailored to the holistic needs of early years and education professionals. You will develop a socio ecological understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of early childhood, enabling you to comprehend and evaluate pedagogical approaches to professional early years practice and become a true advocate for young children’s rights and participation.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must hold a relevant Level 3 qualification, T Level or A Levels, plus at least four GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including Maths and English. A minimum of 32 UCAS points is required. Non native English speakers must demonstrate IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. A satisfactory enhanced DBS check and two supportive references are also required.
Mature applicants (21+) with relevant experience may be considered. All applicants must attend an interview.

Career Progression
Graduates can progress to the BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies (Top Up) at New College Durham, validated by The Open University. Further pathways include School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT), Early Years Initial Teacher Training (EYITT), PGCE, Professional Graduate Certificate in Education, Master’s Degree in Childhood Studies, Post Compulsory Education qualifications, and alternative Master’s routes in Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Counselling, and Social Work.
