Undergraduate Student Finance

Tuition fees and living costs can seem like a significant commitment when planning to study at a higher level. However, the government provides financial support to help you achieve your educational goals.

Student Finance England offers tuition fee loans, maintenance loans, and other forms of financial assistance for students aged 18 or over who are UK citizens or have the right of abode in the UK. All applicants must meet the eligibility criteria, but our friendly and experienced Admissions Team is available to offer guidance and advice throughout the process.

Tuition fees are the amount a college or university charges each year for your course.
You can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan through Student Finance England, which pays your fees directly to the college.

Repayments begin in the April after your course ends, and only if your income is above £25,725 per year.

A Maintenance Loan helps with living costs while you study.
This loan is paid directly into your bank account at the start of each term and is repaid on the same terms as your tuition loan only after your course ends and your income exceeds £25,725 per year.
  •  Childcare Grant
  • Parents’ Learning Allowance
  • Adult Dependants’ Grant
  • Bursaries and Scholarships

Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) – Find out more

  • You only start repayments once you earn £25,000 or more per year.
  • Repayments are based on income, not the total amount borrowed.
  • Payments are deducted automatically through your payroll, similar to tax.
  • You will never deal with private debt collectors.
Tuition fees are the amount universities or colleges charge you each year to study with them. You can take out a loan with Student Finance England to pay for this. The tuition fee will then be paid directly to the College. Repayments of the loan will not commence until the April after your programme ends (subject to you earning a minimum of £25,725.00 per annum). A list of tuition fees is shown in the table below.
